“Trump Calls for Affirmative Action in Trade,” TODAY at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT)

Trump is calling for steep tariffs to “protect” the steel and aluminum industries, and for retributive tariffs more generally. Can anything but free trade be “fair” or “smart”? This and more on today’s show. See Program Notes, below, for stories, etc., I plan to discuss.

Did I call it, or what?

Headline from NYT: “Trump Stuns Lawmakers With Calls for Gun Control”

Six days ago, Trump posted a tweet full of glowing praise for the NRA. I thought it smelled, and said so then. Looks like I was right. He behaved as the perfect pragmatist, as usual, because he had a bunch of “listening sessions,” hearing everyone’s “demands.” William James would be proud.
