Today, Sunday 10/82017, there was a demonstration after a large march by the Catalan majority for the purpose of putting a stop to the independence movement. It was addressed (see below) by Mario Vargas Llosa, Peruvian Nobel Prize winner in literature who lived in exile in Barcelona for many years in the 1970s.

Vargas Llosa is, arguably, the greatest literary figure currently writing in the Spanish language. He, a member of the Mont Pelerin Society, has also become one of the most influential Classical Liberals (that is, an advocate of individual rights, respect for private property and a market economy) in the Latin world. He spoke against the bloody fanaticism of nationalism. He asked the Catalans to not allow Catalonia to be converted into a 3rd world socialist state by the independistas. And he ends his speech with a call to uphold liberty and civilization.

The Sunday march of the silent majority of Catalans to stop the independistas was estimated between 350,000 and 1,000,000.
