Robert Ringer’s Definition of Puritanism
Puritanism is that haunting fear that someone, somewhere is happy.
Harold, I love that definition of Puritanism! (Now that I think of it, one of the paragraphs of my recent blog post definitely reflected that idea.) However, I have always heard that the line is attributed to H.L Mencken. Wikiquote says it is from A Book of Burlesques (1916), though I’ve got that book and I can’t find the quote in there.
