“How Many Days to Flatten the CronyCare Curve?”

by Amy Peikoff and Benjamin Chayes

“Get vaccinated!” he whispered. So ended an address in which President Biden stoked fear, anger, and resentment in support of his latest pandemic policy measures.

The toughest sell was his plan to have private employers “nudge” Americans to submit to vaccines with no long-term track record, and which do an imperfect job against a low lethality disease.

Today’s pertinent disclaimer: We’re both vaccinated (Moderna). In the months since, however, we’ve felt uneasy under the bombardment of a single, univocal message: This is now a “Pandemic of the Unvaccinated.” Only The Vaccine can resurrect Life as Normal. Could The Vaccine be just the latest product and instrument of the public-private partnership we call “CronyCare”?

Don’t Let It Go returns tomorrow, 10:30 a.m. ET!

Yes, I’m back again, rebooting Don’t Let It Go (Unheard). The usual time will probably be later in the day on Saturdays, but tomorrow we’ll be interviewing Professor Mattias Desmet, who is in the Central European Timezone, so we’ll start a bit earlier. We’ll be discussing his psychological perspective on the pandemic era, including his view of what the real problem of this crisis is, and his suggestions for solving it. I hope you can join us!

The show will stream live on my YouTube channel:

Can Trump’s Lawsuits Prevent Big Tech from Becoming Big Brother?

Amy Peikoff and Benjamin Chayes

We’re “Never-Trumpers” who support former President Donald Trump’s lawsuits against Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. That disclaimer’s necessity is one reason we’re writing:

We live in a period of unprecedented polarization and partisanship — a problem exacerbated by the conduct at issue in Mr. Trump’s case.

In its rebuttal to The Social Dilemma, Facebook insisted that, contrary to the documentary, it does work to remove “misinformation” and “hate speech.” In multiple hearanguings before legislators, Facebook and other platforms were warned that they must remove more such content — or else. And now, after revoking former President Donald Trump’s executive action concerning the legal protections for online platforms in Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, it seems the Biden Administration is calling in the favor by encouraging Facebook and other platforms to remove coronavirus “misinformation.” Yet the removal of some of this content — and the de-platforming of some who posted it — forms the basis for Mr. Trump’s lawsuits. Why? Because much of this content is, however baseless or offensive, nonetheless legal, and therefore protected by the First Amendment against censorship by state actors.
